In a world where the righteous path dominates and crushes the demonic sects, Lu Ze unlocks the “Son of the Demon Path” system.

Killing righteous cultivators now grants him power-ups.

Wait—deaths in illusions count too?

As a former game designer, Lu Ze decides to give the cultivators of this world a little—no, a massive—shock…

Sect Elders: “What is this ‘Escape from the Demon Sect’ game? Why have all our disciples abandoned cultivation to play it??”

Elite Disciples: “You’re saying… mastering ‘Demon Slayer’ can help us counter demonic schemes?”

Reclusive Masters: “Why did I leave seclusion? Ask that backstabbing rat who ambushed me in ‘Eternal Strife’ yesterday!”

Rogue Cultivators & Civilians: “‘Immortal Abyss Action’ is addictive! You can even earn spirit stones by loot-running…”

Sect Prodigy: “My Dao heart is unshakable… except for that cursed black hammer.”

Royal Scions: “Can skins have stat boosts? I’ll pay 10,000 spirit stones for one!!”

Sect Leader: “WHO IS CORRUPTING MY DISCIPLES?!!!”

Great start. I laughed out loud a lot of times and I'm just at chapter 11. This is the kind of story where they take modern knowledge into medieval settings, this time to a cultivation world. And the modern knowledge this time is games. There was a brief mention that the MC introduced wuxia novels, but the main plot is about games so far. And everything is realistic and funny at the same time. It's not nonsensical comedy, it's laughing at righteous cultivators actions and reactions to modern games. There is ... more>> also a system for the MC that gives missions and benefits each time a cultivator dies in his game. It's not easy to make this kind of story engaging, funny and credible but this author does it masterfully. And the translation is very good but I noticed some inconsistencies in gender pronouns.
Edit: I'm at chapter 44 now and the translation issue with pronouns was an exception and the novel keeps the great quality. The MC is getting too OP but the story is still a joy to read regardless. Because the main thing is the games creation and repercussions, not the MC cultivation. The MC cultivation aided by the OP system might be used to justify the creation of bigger and more complex games. Still an excellent novel. <<less

A fun and relaxing read, with satisfying face slaps while being rather low stakes for a cultivation world - there's no chance of death, and the MC's focus is purely on building the best "VR" (illusion) games to get all the cultivators addicted. ... more>> Spoiler He seems to be building up towards creating the internet, which will be great to see. [collapse] I love these kinds of "bystander" MC, where he keeps his focus on his one area which doesn't involve any actual fighting/danger, and we get to see all the chaos he causes. Romance: none for now :) <<less

NU's latest hidden gem, this novel utilizes the tried and tested writing style and clichés of Chinese webnovels and implements it in a unique way. It has some of the most generic things you can think of in a modern xianxia such as systems, overpowered techniques, godlike physiques, face slapping, peanut galleries, cold beauties, you name it. But the genius of this novel is that unlike the mountains of junk on this site, the novel's core appeal isn't about combat or power leveling where these tropes are usually applied. Instead, ... more>> we follow the mc's journey in adapting popular video games to overcome adversities and gain a different kind of strength than just pure power, but rather something intangible which is reputation and notoriety. Chinese novels in general have been unrivaled when it comes to portraying internet culture in fiction, and such strength is in full display in this novel, with players sharing guides in forums and chasing after leaderboards. It is unique, fresh, and familiar all at once. Chinese webnovels have finally come around to realizing that the xianxia world doesn't always have to be a world revolving around fighting or seeking immortality. Just like other forms of fantasy world, it can also be a world that is lived in. I hope this is a trend that will catch on, we could always use more of these slice-of-life xianxia. <<less
