Sea of mind
Chapter 229: 229 - Sea of mind
"I’m sorry." Qingyi lowered his gaze.
He didn’t know much about Mojie, but he didn’t seem like a bad person.
"It’s natural," Yedu shook his head. "People always die, that’s how this line of work works."
After these words, there was a moment of silence before Yedu regained his composure.
"We need to organize some things now, get ready to contact the targets and confirm this information." Yedu said, taking out a document and handing it to Qingyi.
The handsome young man took the document, reading it calmly.
That calm didn’t last long, soon turning to deep shock.
That document was a report from another undercover group, claiming that the chief strategist was seriously ill and that the demon cult was planning an all-out attack on the orthodox alliance, trying to decapitate it in a single battle.
How could that be real?
The demon cult should need at least a few more decades to prepare for an all-out war against the orthodox alliance and from what Ruyan told him, the chief strategist shouldn’t be ill.
"Are you sure about this information?" He asked, putting the document under the table.
"No, that’s what we’re here for." Yedu said, turning to Heidu.
"You managed to get in touch with one of the great elder’s servants, didn’t you? Did you find out anything?"
"Not much," the fattie shook his head.
"I tried using some soul techniques to scan his memory, but nothing worked, as if he had a blockage."
"Hm..." Yedu scratched his chin, wondering what to do.
"I also had contact with one of the targets." Qingyi said, placing the token he had received from Xue Mo on the table.
Yedu looked confused for a brief moment, but that confusion soon turned to shock as he grabbed the token.
Studying it carefully, he raised his face. "How did you get this? Do you know what this token represents?"
"No. All I know is that it was with Xue Mo’s personal servant.
After he angered the young lord and was killed, Xue Mo gave it to me, perhaps thinking I was a suitable servant."
"Ah... each of the demon cult leader’s children receives a personal servant who should accompany them throughout their lives; this is Xue Mo’s personal servant token, one of the most powerful items in the sect, having it makes you no less than a core disciple." Yedu spoke, still unable to believe his own eyes.
After a moment’s thought, he focused his eyes on Qingyi again. "You approach Xue Mo. Heidu and I will try to get close to the great guardian.
The chief strategist is almost always with the cult leader, so we’ll only approach him if necessary."
After chatting some more and settling some other less important matters, the trio split up.
Qingyi was thinking of going straight back to Ruyan’s mansion, but after thinking for a moment, he decided it was time to make a breakthrough.
It was a challenge to find a suitable cultivation room.
Almost all the cultivation rooms there only had demonic Qi, with the few offering totally pure Qi being absurdly expensive.
With pain in his heart, Qingyi paid the price before entering the cultivation room and calling up his status screen.

After a moment’s hesitation, Qingyi clicked to improve his cultivation.
[Beginning advancement to the Nascent Soul Realm, the host must take care when building his Sea of Mind].
A notification from the system arrived and before Qingyi could even react, he was seized by intense pain, but this time in a different way.
His mind seemed to be torn from his body, everything becoming a messy blur as the space around him distorted.
When he realized it, he was naked, in a strange and totally dark place, his feet sinking up to his heels in water.
He couldn’t see anything, not even with his draconic eyes.
The reason he couldn’t see anything there was simple: there was nothing there.
That was his world of the mind; empty, untouched and ultimately non-existent.
"First, bring your dantian here." Ruxue’s sweet, mature voice echoed in Qingyi’s mind and he felt her appear beside him.
This time, she wasn’t in her human form, taking on the appearance of a strange being of light, floating a few meters off the ground, filled with a thunderous aura.
"That’s my real form, ignore it and focus on forming your sea of mind." Ruxue warned and Qingyi nodded.
Bringing up his dantian there... how the hell was he supposed to do that?
Qingyi asked, but no answer came.
He closed his eyes, thought, reflected and then just meditated.
After long hours, he felt his dantian respond, subtly, gently, almost non-existently.
It was only after a whole day that a firm response finally came and the world around him changed as a small orb of light left his abdomen, floating tenuously above the ground.
This orb completely swept away the darkness that surrounded him, a bluish sky appeared above his head as the orb shot towards the sky at an absurd speed, shining brighter than ever.
Soon, Qingyi found himself in a totally different place.
As far as his eyes could see, he saw an endless ocean, but one whose deepest places were barely twenty centimeters deep.
The sky above him was a deep blue, painted with ethereal white clouds and illuminated by his dantian, which shimmered above it all.
"Did I succeed?" Qingyi asked, turning to Ruxue who had now managed to take on her human form.
Her face was filled with shock, one hand covering her mouth as she stared into Qingyi’s sea of mind.
