Chapter 74 : Chapter 74

Chapter 74

The wands of the two professors and the city hall mages drew the same trajectory in the air in unison.

A huge return portal was created by ten mages.

As it was a portal for moving dozens of people at once, the mages who were using magic were sweating profusely.

Eddie stared blankly at the shining circle that was slowly being created.

'This should be a decent end to the plan.'

It had been a day of many gains.

He had acquired a considerable amount of information from the Kirhausen's secret facility and secured evidence to persuade Rosch.

He had once again brought his and Joy's names to people's attention.

On top of that, he had even found out Hendricks' identity, which would be highly useful in the future.

There had been some things that had gone slightly awry due to meeting Marcel and Hendricks in the middle, but the results were excellent enough to make up for it.

Eddie decided to be satisfied with this.

'Especially, for a decision made on impulse, it wasn't a bad choice. Creating a crack in that guy's world.'

Eddie glanced at Marcel, who was staring at the portal from a little distance away.

Marcel's expression looked confused with shock.

A little while ago, two walls of common sense that Marcel had taken for granted had cracked.

One was Eddie's words that the family would not be able to cast him out.

The other was the fact that the magical beast he thought would never appear had appeared before Eddie and even accompanied him.

He probably wouldn't know what to be more surprised about.

The thing that would bother him the most would be the bold statement about the family.

Eddie felt a little relieved as he watched Marcel furrow his brow.

Although it was not intentional, he had avoided danger thanks to messing with his mind with the story about the family.

He hadn't mentioned the sleepwalking story when talking to Marcel.

If the smart and influential Marcel had pointed out, 'You didn't say anything like that when you met me,' it might have become quite troublesome.

Eddie reflected on himself that he should pay more attention to his acting.

"What are you thinking so hard about?"

As he stood still for a long time, Joy waved her hand in front of Eddie's eyes and asked.

"Just... the thought of wanting to go back to the campsite and lie down quickly?"

"You're really not hurt anywhere, are you?"

"I'm fine. Don't worry. By the way, what happened? Why are you and Young Master Alexein in the search party?"

"No matter what, I'm a grade executive, so I couldn't just rest with my legs stretched out while not knowing if three of my classmates were dead or alive. The professors tried to stop me, but I insisted until the end and came along. Alexein joined in the same way."

"I see. The other kids must have been surprised."

"Yeah, they were all surprised. But no one cursed at me. I guess I didn't seem so unlucky this time."

"That's good."

"But weren't you in any danger? You must have been wandering the ruins alone until you met Hendricks."

"Fortunately, there was nothing very dangerous. I actually saw a lot of interesting things. I'm sorry to the professors, but the unexpected experience was honestly beneficial."

"You're probably the only one who can say that. Still, it's good that nothing happened until the end."

Joy made a half-joking face of disgust, and Eddie smiled thinly and nodded lightly.

A confirmation of the plan taking place within a superficial conversation.

The two, who had learned that each other's biggest goal had been achieved, exchanged glances of relief.

'By the way, to think that guy Alexein would actually follow the search.'

Eddie smiled slightly as he glanced at Alexein standing with Hendricks.

He looked quite like himself, tensed up and wearing safety equipment engraved with the Dickens family crest.

The stimulation Alexein had received, although it was jealousy, was nothing short of a bonus in this plan.

It would be nice if he changed a little more because of this.

In the meantime, the huge return portal was finally completed.

"The portal is connected to the campsite plaza. Let's move in groups of twenty."

"Order is important as many people are taking the portal at once. Let's decide on the order of movement."

The students would go first.

Next were the people from the city hall, including Rob and Blake.

The city guard would go after them, and Brenda and Fred volunteered to go last.

It was an excellent attitude befitting educators, but Knight Captain Samuel had a sense of duty no less than theirs.

"No. The last ones to enter should be me and my men. We will guard the area around the portal. That is our duty as the city guard."

There was no room for rebuttal in his firm words.

The two professors were flustered for a moment, then nodded their heads to express their gratitude.

It was always reassuring to see an upright person.

It was finally time to return to the safe campsite.

A look of relief finally appeared on the faces of Blake and the city hall employees, who had been terrified the whole time.

Blake, in addition to that, glanced at Eddie with narrow eyes.

'I'll have to write a report on that tail as soon as I get back.'

He felt that the Kirhausen family's tail was a more tremendous existence than the magical beast that had appeared after half a century.

"Then, let's form two lines and enter. If your posture becomes unstable during movement, you'll feel nauseous, so don't hurry and enter slowly."

"Then Eddie, Marcel. You two go in first..."

"Heok!"

Hendricks' scream-like gasp was heard just then.

Everyone's gaze focused on Hendricks, and Hendricks, pale as a sheet, looked at Eddie among the many people.

'Run.'

That was the shape Hendricks' trembling lips formed.

And the next moment.

"Kwaaaaaaaang-!!!"

With a roar that seemed to tear the world apart, a huge magical beast appeared from the other side of the plain.

Kung!

Jeobeok- Jeobeok- Jeobeok-

Seuseuseut- Seuseuseut-

The magical beast slowly approached the crowd standing in front of the portal.

Every time its huge body moved, a strange noise like the wind brushing past one's ears was heard.

"Uh... uh uh... uh uh uh..."

The city hall employees pointed at the magical beast with trembling fingers.

Its body, shining mysteriously in the moonlight, and the huge silver horn in the center of its forehead.

And even its fierce golden eyes.

It really was a Rakan tribe magical beast.

"Eu... eu... euahhhhhhh-!"

The first one to scream was Blake.

He pushed aside the five students standing in front of him and ran towards the portal with all his might.

"W-wait!"

The two professors tried to stop him, but Blake threw himself into the portal faster.

And at the same time, the magical beast charged.

Dudududududu-!

"Uwaaaaaak! Run away!"

"Qu-quickly! Get in quickly!"

The order that had just been established collapsed in an instant.

Not only the panicked city hall employees but also the city hall mages who were supposed to maintain the portal scrambled to jump into the portal.

Thanks to that, the portal maintenance that should have been done by ten mages became the burden of the two professors alone.

"Ugh...! Please calm down! You can't just barge in like this! You mages over there, with us..."

"Fred! We have to expand the portal somehow! If we go on like this, everyone who enters will have their bodies dismantled inside the portal!"

"It's impossible, professor! The best we can do is maintain it with just the two of us! If we try to expand it recklessly here, the portal might collapse altogether...!"

A desperate moment with dozens of lives at stake.

Fortunately, salvation came.

Buung-

Eddie's wand drew a large arc and poured mana into the portal.

Then, the portal, which had been unstable, instantly took on a stable form and grew three times in size.

"Edm... no, Eddie!"

"I will maintain the portal! Professors, please protect the city guard and the other kids!"

"...Got it. I'm counting on you!"

Thanks to that, the two professors, who had been able to catch their breath, pushed through the crowd heading for the portal and advanced towards the magical beast.

The situation was not good.

The city guard barely blocked the magical beast's charge, but the defense line was precarious, as if it would be broken through at any moment.

Eddie watched this and drew up even more mana.

'What a mess.'

It was a completely unexpected event.

A magical beast had appeared in front of the search party as intended, but that magical beast was not a scout.

Its body was too large to be a normal individual.

Hendricks had noticed the magical beast's appearance later than expected.

And even Blake, who had fled as soon as he saw the magical beast.

Considering all the circumstances, it was clear that it was a 'central individual.'

Central individuals were a very small number of the magical beast king's confidants, powerful individuals who had received the most of the king's power.

The power of each of them was equivalent to the strength of a single legion of a magical army.

Except for Eddie, everyone here, even if they combined their strength, would be no match for it.

'That's why that aide guy ran away as soon as he saw the magical beast.'

Eddie grit his teeth as he thought of Blake.

He had become the leader of the mob heading for the portal.

Thanks to that guy, he, the only one who could face the magical beast alone, was stuck guarding the portal.

He was furious at the irresponsible attitude of the city hall side.

But this was not the time to blame anyone.

Eddie shouted at Hendricks and Joy.

"Hendricks, Joy! I'll make a separate portal for you, so go with the two young masters!"

"What about you!"

"R-right. We have to go together!"

"Someone has to stay until the end and face that guy. That magical beast is a central individual of the Rakan tribe!"

"C-central individual?"

At Eddie's words, the faces of Joy, Marcel, and Alexein turned pale.

A central individual.

Only then did they understand why the city hall side had been in such a panic earlier.

"Go quickly!"

While they were surprised, Eddie created a small portal with his fingertips.

Joy, Marcel, and Hendricks hesitated for a moment as they looked at the struggling Eddie.

But soon, Alexein's shouting voice led them.

"What are you all standing around for! We're no help here anyway! Evacuating even one more person is helping that guy!"

Inferiority, fear, jealousy.

And at the end of it all, the recognition that had barely sprung up.

Alexein accepted that Eddie was the solution to this situation.

He shouted and dragged Hendricks and Marcel into the portal.

Joy looked back and forth between the portal and Eddie, hesitating until the last moment, then made a decision and took a step.

.

The city guard's defense line could not hold out any longer and collapsed.

"Kwaaaaaaaang-!!"

"Uwaak-!"

As the magical beast raised its head, breaking through the weapons that were pressing down on its head, the knights' bodies flew into the air.

"Ugh!"

The youngest knight rolled on the floor and groaned.

His knee had bent because he had failed to break his fall properly.

"Krrrrrrrr..."

The magical beast growled as it glared at the youngest member who was sitting on the ground.

His young face quickly turned pale, and soon his whole body was trembling.

"Kwang-!"

With a short roar, the magical beast charged at the youngest member.

"Billy-!"

Hearing the voices of his seniors calling him, the youngest member squeezed his eyes shut.

The magical beast's huge horn would soon pierce his body.

'This is the end.'

Just as he was cowering, anticipating death.

Kang-!

Samuel's sword flew like an arrow and struck the magical beast's horn.

While the magical beast staggered, Samuel picked up the sword stuck in the ground and struck the magical beast's horn again.

Kaang-!

The magical beast staggered and retreated.

"Take Billy away!"

Taking advantage of the gap between them and the magical beast, the other knights quickly rescued the youngest member.

"Krrrrrrr!"

The magical beast's golden eyes blazed as it glared at Samuel.

It was unusual for it to growl and shine its whole body in a mysterious color.

'...What an awe-inspiring sight.'

Samuel tightened his grip on his sword.

Frankly, he didn't think he could win.

But he had no intention of backing down.

"Krrrrrrrr... Kwaaaaaaaang-!!"

"Captain!"

The magical beast charged at Samuel.
