Chapter 89: Teenagers in Puberty Are Full of…

After successfully getting Dongli Yiren to come with me, we boarded the bus.

I wasn’t sure if it was my imagination, but Dongli Yiren seemed tense the entire time, as if a senior might jump out and harass her at any moment.

Seeing her like this, I started to wonder if I’d gone too far with my earlier teasing.

Was her mental resilience really that weak?

How did this guy get into one of the Three Great Top-tier Academies?

“You okay?”

I looked at her, curled up in the corner by the edge.

Ever since a senior sat down in front of us and enthusiastically greeted us, Dongli Yiren had been freaked out by the interaction, which in turn seemed to throw the senior off.

“I… I’m fine. You don’t need to worry about me.”

“Alright then. We’re getting off soon, but if you keep acting like this, I won’t call you,” I said helplessly, resting my hand on my forehead.

“No way, you brought me out here you can’t abandon me”

Dongli Yiren said the most cowardly words in the toughest tone.

“Fine, fine, fine. Seriously, how can someone like you ahem, be so timid?”

I muttered in a tone of exasperation, as if disappointed in her lack of resolve.

“That’s none of your business.”

Perhaps triggered by the hint at her past identity, I saw her force herself to calm down, pretending to act nonchalant.

If it weren’t for her uneasy, darting eyes, I might’ve actually believed her.

This state lasted until we reached our stop, when I finally pulled Dongli Yiren off the bus.

I could sense an unusual excitement in her as we arrived, like a gambler caught up in the thrill, which made me uneasy.

“Let me make this clear: once you get the items, don’t go casting spells recklessly. Any damage caused is on you to compensate for, especially inside the villa,” I warned, driven by my unease.

“Huh? Why not?”

“What, you’re not seriously planning to treat spells like fireworks, are you?”

I asked, frowning.

Was this guy secretly a destruction maniac?

Should I stop her, or let her mess up, learn a lesson, and grow from it?

“Isn’t the academy for teaching extraordinary powers? Why can’t we cast spells freely?”

“You can, but you don’t have much control over the spell solidified in the Badge. It’s easy to cause irreversible damage to buildings or even innocent people. If you’ve got enough money to cover the damages, then forget I said anything,” I hurriedly explained.

“Doesn't the academy have a place where you can freely cast spells?”

Dongli Yiren asked eagerly, clearly fixated on casting spells.

It made sense.

Teenagers in their prime were naturally drawn to the allure of violent extraordinary powers, eager to toss out a few Fireballs to see their might.

But didn’t they ever consider the consequences?

As expected, teenagers in puberty were full of fantasies about looking cool with extraordinary powers, right?

Did they even know how powerful spells could be?

Knowing nothing and charging in like a reckless newbie careful not to get themselves killed.

“There is a place like that in the academy, but I haven’t been there. If you want to go, you can look it up on the map,” I said.

Speaking of spell-testing areas, I hadn’t been to one either.

Now that Dongli Yiren brought it up, I was kind of curious to try it out myself.

After all, I hadn’t tested the solidified spell on my Badge yet, and I had no idea about its power or effects.

Maybe I should go with Dongli Yiren to try it?

But I didn’t know how much it cost.

Speaking of costs, did Dongli Yiren even have money?

“By the way, do you have money? A lot of the academy’s facilities cost money to use,” I reminded her kindly.

“Money? I don’t know. Let me see if this phone can link to my card,” Dongli Yiren said, her face showing a hint of embarrassment after I mentioned money.

She knew the academy issued phone had no signal.

She’d tried calling for help with it before…

So, whether the money on her old phone could be transferred was uncertain.

It should be possible right?

I leaned in curiously to watch.

When I transferred money, it was during a breach in the Curtain Wall, as I instinctively thought there’d be a signal then, allowing the transfer.

Now that the Curtain Wall was fixed, I didn’t know if money from the old phone could still be transferred.

Hm weird, it says it’s pending approval, but binding the card number to this phone seems fine.

It should work for payments.

Dongli Yiren’s tone carried some uncertainty.

Her expression wasn’t great either.

She’d been sent to university with high hopes from her parents, only to end up at Witch Academy.

Her parents had probably received the devastating news by now, right?

Thankfully, they likely didn’t know yet that she’d turned into a girl.

Would her parents still send her living expenses in this situation, given that the academy was mostly cut off from the outside world?

They probably would right?

She wasn’t sure herself.

“It should be fine. As long as you have money, you can usually spend it,” I comforted her.

It seemed that even with the Curtain Wall in place, money could still be managed.

After all, this was electronic currency, not like the app-based transfers from my previous life, a big difference.

“Um… I guess so… By the way, do you know how much it costs to use the spell-testing place?”

Dongli Yiren clearly wasn’t worried about whether she could spend money but whether she’d have a steady income.

If not, she’d have to find a way to earn money herself.

Honestly, she’d never worked a job and didn’t even know how to look for part-time work.

If she had to go shop by shop asking for jobs, she didn’t have the courage or thick skin for it.

“No idea, but testing requires targets and destructible objects, so the fees probably aren’t low,” I answered honestly.

“Then I won’t test it.”

Hearing the high cost, Dongli Yiren quickly abandoned the plan.

She needed to save money now, and if possible, find a part-time job.

She knew her parents well.

She wasn’t an only child or the most favored one.

Their high expectations came from her getting into a good university.

But now she wasn’t sure if they’d give up on her after learning about this.

So, she needed to find her own way and not just sit idly by…

At that thought, she remembered the senior who brought her here and her “proposal.”

No way, that was impossible.

She’d… she’d deal with it when it came to the last resort.

For now, she’d take it one day at a time.

“Oh, we’re almost there. It’s just ahead. Let’s go,” I said, recognizing the familiar area, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that Dongli Yiren wasn’t as excited as before.

Has something happened?

Was it about money?

Ever since we talked about it, she seemed like a different person, showing signs of struggle before resignation.

“Huh? Oh, r-right, let’s go.”
