Chapter 34 : A New Day

The day passed quickly.

I clocked out, changed out of my uniform, and was ready to head out.

Tang Yihan looked like she was about to leave too, as it was almost closing time.

“Xiao Han, hurry up. Be careful on your way back.”

“Got it, Senior Tang. You too.”

I replied politely.

“Heh, if it’s me, it’s the bad guys who should be careful. If you’re free tomorrow, come early.”

“Will do!”

I nodded, grabbing some cookies Senior Tang gave me to take back to the dorm.

These cookies were a gift, she said, claiming they’d been sitting around for a while.

But when I tried them, they tasted great—no hint of being stale.

Since she offered, I didn’t refuse.

Irresponsibly speaking, they probably wouldn’t sell if left there, right?

But I had to admit, having unlimited bread and pastries for lunch and dinner was amazing.

Though, seeing Senior Tang eat with a lifeless expression made me realize I’d probably end up the same way.

Eating the same thing all the time does get tiring.

No wonder Senior Tang tried making all sorts of weird products, even if they tasted odd.

She seemed to enjoy experimenting.

She told me many of the shop’s new items came from her tinkering.

She was the backbone of the shop’s product innovation.

Of course, the wasted ingredients didn’t count against her.

That’s why I wanted to quickly learn some baking skills.

I was eager to recreate desserts from my past life and see what kind of sparks would fly when combined with this world’s flavors.

Back at my big villa, honestly, I was a bit hopeful for a new roommate to show up, but sadly, no luck.

It was still just me alone tonight.

It seemed like unless it was the last day, not many freshmen would arrive early.

How did I know no one came?

Easy—I asked the smart housekeeper.

That little thing, wandering around the house, would know if anyone had been here.

It could even climb stairs to the upper floors, which surprised me.

Truly a magical alchemy product.

Just amazing.

Tonight, I planned to sleep early and wake up early.

I’d head to the shop in the morning—mornings shouldn’t be too busy, right?

As for dorm chores, I didn’t mind too much.

Since I was alone, I didn’t need to worry about others’ feelings.

But I couldn’t be too sloppy, or I’d give off a bad impression.

There were actually a lot of things to do tonight, like sorting yesterday’s unorganized clothes and putting them in the wardrobe.

Or washing and drying the clothes I’d worn… Well, no need to air dry them.

There was a dryer here.

Though I’d never used one.

I preferred the fresh scent of clothes dried in natural sunlight.

But before going to bed, I got a goodnight message from Bai Yu, which I hadn’t expected.

She’d left in such a hurry last night, but she was still sending me a goodnight the next evening?

She never did that before.

Was Bai Yu feeling guilty about bringing me to Witch Academy?

I’d already explained clearly that she wasn’t responsible, and it was my choice.

I hadn’t regretted it.

But seeing Bai Yu awkwardly trying to make conversation was kind of cute.

That night, I slept soundly.

My biological clock was back to normal, so I woke up early, feeling fully refreshed.

Today was another day to make big money!

I didn’t know if the manager and Ying Shiqian were back yet.

If Ying Shiqian wasn’t, it’d just be me and Senior Tang today.

That might mean washing dishes all afternoon again.

I hoped she wouldn’t make too many weird new products today—those really wouldn’t sell!

For breakfast, I had the cookies I brought back yesterday.

I didn’t eat much last night, since eating too much at night could make you gain weight.

I wasn’t exactly fat now, and back at home, gaining weight was hard anyway.

I jogged to the shop, but seeing Tang Yihan busy, I knew the manager probably wasn’t back yet.

Though it was supposedly about delivering a red velvet cake, did it really take this long?

If I remembered right, they were scheming about this year’s top student.

The academy task system had a pinned task for it, and quite a few people had accepted it.

“Xiao Han, you’re here early. Go change and help out—my dough’s waiting in the back.”

“Got it.”

I looked at the customers picking out bread in the shop, almost in disbelief.

Was this the same nearly empty bakery from yesterday?

Were mornings just busier here?

It made sense that bread and pastries as breakfast weren’t a bad choice, so it got busy during meal times.

I’d been complaining about the lack of customers, but when it got busy, one person really couldn’t handle it all.

So I quickly went to the back, changed into my uniform, and took over the counter from Senior Tang.

Good thing you’re here, Xiao Han, or I’d be swamped.

Alright, I’m off to check on my new creation, I thought about it all night.

“Go ahead, I’ve got this,” I said, quickly settling into the work vibe.

“New employee, huh? Are you a freshman?”

“Yes, I started yesterday. If I do anything wrong, please let me know,” I said politely.

The customer was actually paying attention to the staff?

They must be regular, probably familiar with the two senior sisters.

“Can I really make any suggestions?”

“Um, if they’re reasonable, we’ll take them,” I replied with a standard professional smile, sensing this customer might be trouble.

Please don’t give me a hard time.

“Then can you give me a sweet morning greeting? Preferably with cute gestures!”

At that moment, my smile faltered.

This was a big ask!

I was just a part-time worker.

Why make it hard for a wage slave like me?

I racked my brain for the few morning greetings I knew, piecing together something under her expectant gaze.

“Good morning Here’s a ray of sunshine, two slices of bread, three drops of hope, four bits of blessings, and five dashes of luck. Have a happy day.”

I handed her the purchased bread, neatly dodging the need for cute gestures.

Doing that would’ve been mortifying!

“Oh Oh! Thank you! With your blessing, I’m sure I’ll snag that freshman I’m recruiting today!

Bye-bye!”

I watched awkwardly as the satisfied senior sister left.

For now, I’d pray for that unknown freshman.

And preemptively congratulate them on joining Witch Academy.

“Little junior sister, I want your blessing too. You wouldn’t play favorites, would you?”

The next customer stepped up, looking at me expectantly.

I knew I was in trouble.

I’d opened a Pandora’s box.

I was doomed—my limited vocabulary couldn’t come up with more sweet words!

Want a curse instead?

I grumbled internally.
