Chapter 13 : Obtaining the Student Card

Soon, the senior sister draped the witch cape over my shoulders and pinned the badge onto my chest.

“This badge has the best solidified spell enchantment among those options. It’s probably the most durable, so it shouldn’t break even after frequent use,” Bai Yu explained while helping me adjust everything.

“Huh? The badge break?”

I quickly caught the key point.

“Yeah, the magic power controlled by witches is a high-energy force. Even the most basic spells, when driven by magic power, leave irreparable wear. These solidified spells are meant for beginners during the early transition period. By the later stages, they’re just decorations.”

“I see…”

I held the edge of the witch hat and followed Bai Yu out.

When we passed a mirror, I put on the wide-brimmed witch hat, and my witch-like aura instantly skyrocketed.

“Does it look good?”

I instinctively turned to Bai Yu and blurted out the question.

The moment I said it, I was even surprised.

Why would I ask something like that?

I shouldn’t care about how I looked.

Besides, it wasn’t exactly feminine clothing—just a cape.

Was this the so-called witchification, or was it my true nature?

But the question was meaningless.

After briefly wrestling with the thought, I calmly accepted that I was starting to care about my appearance.

After all, I was already planning to wear skirts and such, so what was the big deal?

“It looks good. It’d be even better with a matching outfit,” Bai Yu said with a smile, looking at me in the witch hat.

“So, where to next?”

I jogged a few steps ahead of Bai Yu, then turned around to ask.

With Bai Yu guiding me, I hadn’t even bothered to look closely at the enrollment process.

I relied entirely on her.

“There’s probably just one last thing left,” Bai Yu said after thinking for a moment.

“Already the last thing? What is it?” I asked, feeling a bit reluctant to be done so soon.

“Picking up your student card. It’s very important.”

“Then let’s go! Time waits for no one,” I said, glancing at my phone.

I now had two phones: one from the academy and my original one.

Both showed the same time, but my old phone had no signal.

It seemed the senior sister wasn’t lying about the academy being in another dimension—my phone was indeed obsolete here.

I felt a bit reluctant to let it go.

Soon, Bai Yu led me to the place where student cards were issued.

It was inside what looked like a teaching building.

There were temporary signs pointing the way, but finding this place alone would’ve been tough—probably would’ve taken a few wrong turns.

“New student here for a student card? Come over,” the senior sister inside called out as soon as I entered.

She seemed very experienced, and I hadn’t even said anything yet.

Still, I gave her a quick greeting.

“Alright, tell me your name, and I’ll look up your info,” the senior sister said in a slightly lazy tone, operating a somewhat complex device in front of her.

“My name is Yang Yuehan,” I said politely.

“Yang Yuehan… Hmm… Not found. There’s only a male, and he’s from the last batch of provisional admissions,” she said, glancing at her screen and then looking up at me.

“If I’m not mistaken, that male is me,” I said, keeping my smile as a gentle reminder.

“Hm?”

The senior sister let out a surprised sound, clearly caught off guard by my words.

She straightened up, looked at me, and her puzzled expression turned into a knowing smile.

“Oh oh oh I get it. Little junior sister—no, little junior brother, you’ve got potential! Welcome to being a preparatory witch,” she said with a grin.

“You’re the first guy I’ve met who’s so calm while registering for a student card, at least the first I’ve encountered.”

What could I say?

I just kept smiling.

“Yang Yuehan, right? You can’t lie about this. So, are you keeping this name?”

“Yes, I’ll keep it,” I nodded.

This was my name from my previous life.

It wasn’t a coincidence in this life either—I’d changed my name before, and I could barely remember my old one.

“And the photo? Keep the old one from when you were a guy as a memento, or take a new one?”

“Hm… A new one. I want to say goodbye to the past,” I said sincerely.

“Alright, come with me.”

The senior sister stood up, and behind her was a simple-looking photo studio.

After some fussing, I finally got my student card.

Then I enthusiastically said goodbye to the senior sister.

“Done?” Bai Yu, who had been waiting outside, immediately approached as I came out.

“Yup, all set,” I said, waving the card in my hand.

The student card was simple.

On the left was the photo we’d just taken, showing me in a full, formal witch outfit.

The large brim of the hat didn’t even fully fit in the frame, but I was quite satisfied with it.

The senior sister had taken several versions, and I picked this one.

On the right were my name, the academy, and my student number.

The academy was, of course, Witch Academy, and the student number was a string like “41145134015.”

At a glance, I could tell “1145” referred to this year.

This calendar system started with the founding of the first academy, which was Wizard Academy, marking year one.

Though my history knowledge was fuzzy on this part, it was clear the establishment of academies was a profoundly significant milestone for this world.

As for the “4” at the start, it probably had to do with Witch Academy being the fourth supernatural academy founded in this world.

This suggested that, despite its poor reputation, Witch Academy’s status was comparable to the three great top-tier academies.

The student card felt wooden to the touch, with faint blue energy visibly flowing across it, like cracks in a tree spreading over the surface.

I tried using Spirit Vision to examine it, and there was indeed supernatural energy surging within.

Endless energy seemed to emanate from the card, then inexplicably dissipate or break down into ordinary energy.

Yet, I didn’t feel the card glowing or heating up.

At the same time, a lot of energy was flowing into it, as if the inflow and outflow were balanced at a perfect equilibrium.

As expected of Witch Academy—even a student card was this magical!

“Bai Yu, You said the student card is something important. What’s it used for?”

I asked, holding the card between two fingers as I sidled up to Bai Yu.

Speaking of which, during this registration period, I’d been like a curious child, asking Bai Yu all sorts of questions left and right.

I was starting to feel a bit embarrassed, but Bai Yu never seemed bothered and kept answering patiently.
