Chapter 12 : The Cold Encounter of the Girls

Right after I finished filling out the form, I finally noticed a girl had been following me from behind.

To be more precise, she seemed to be looking at my form?

But what was so interesting about it?

I turned around abruptly, my gaze locking onto the girl.

She was clearly caught off guard by my sudden movement, her eyes darting around as if unsure where to look, though she pretended to be busy with her own matters.

“Is something up? I noticed you’ve been standing behind me, looking at my form,” I pointed out her actions without holding back.

“Well… not really all the time, haha… I just saw that the senior sister guiding you seemed to know a lot about magic wands, so I wanted to learn from her,” the girl said, scratching her head with a bit of embarrassment.

“Speaking of magic wands, isn’t the best one the one that suits you? Are you sure you want to copy mine?”

I waved the form in front of her, giving her a playful smile.

Although I didn’t know much about magic wands, for a beginner like me, the wand probably didn’t make much of a difference.

To need a wand that truly suited you, you’d at least have to have your own fighting style or combat spells, right?

At this stage, none of us were professionals, so what was the point of needing such a specialized wand?

But tricking a fellow freshman like her, who clearly knew as little about wands as I did, shouldn’t be a problem.

“Really? Then… I guess I’ll change mine…”

The girl hesitated visibly before speaking awkwardly.

“Don’t you have a senior sister guiding you?”

I looked at her, finally voicing my curiosity.

“Well… the senior sister brought us to register at the academy and then just vanished, leaving us with a list of things we still need to do on our own.”

I could hear the grievance in her voice as she spoke.

After all, comparison breeds discontent.

But I caught onto something key: she said “us.”

Did that senior sister just abandon a group of freshmen here?

My gaze instinctively shifted to the side, wondering if there were others with her.

I could probably ask Bai Yu to help if it was just one person, but if there were more, that might be tricky.

Even though they were freshmen like me, it didn’t mean we’d necessarily cross paths in the future, right?

“Yeah, that senior sister was so irresponsible. She said we could handle the rest ourselves, but it took us forever just to find this place. And to think we wanted to come to the academy early to get familiar with it,” another girl nearby chimed in, clearly complaining.

From her demeanor, she seemed to know the first girl, likely brought by the same senior sister.

“Senior sister, could you please guide us too? It’s our first time at the academy, and we’re totally lost. We still have several steps to complete…”

The second girl then tried to cozy up to Bai Yu, her tone seamlessly shifting from resentful to pitiful.

I stood there, eyes wide.

What was going on?

How did they suddenly latch onto my Bai Yu?

Weren’t they just talking to me?

“No way, I don’t have the energy for that. If you don’t know the way, you should have phones. Use the map navigation,” Bai Yu replied calmly, her tone not cold but carrying an undeniable authority.

“But… our phones don’t have a signal here…” another girl said weakly from the side.

“Didn’t you pick up the phones issued by the academy? They’re at the registration office. Go there to get them and find an available senior sister while you’re at it. That’s more efficient than begging me here,” Bai Yu continued, giving them a direction and a subtle hint to stop bothering her.

The girls, sensing the mood, left tactfully.

Girls are sensitive to emotions, and it was clear this senior sister had no interest in dealing with them.

If they kept pestering her, who knew if these seniors, who had at least mastered some supernatural powers, might hold a grudge?

Getting cursed without even realizing it would be disastrous.

“They just left like that?”

I curiously approached Bai Yu.

It seemed I didn’t even need to step in.

But I’d never seen Bai Yu act like that before.

“What else? I came here specifically for you. I don’t want to deal with a bunch of chattering girls,” Bai Yu said.

“Fair enough. So, should I submit the form now? By the way, when do we get the uniforms?”

I asked, holding the form.

“If you don’t have any special requests, you can get a standard set right away. If you have specific requirements, it might take a few days,” Bai Yu replied after thinking for a moment.

With that settled, I handed in my form without hesitation.

The senior sister checking it frowned as she looked at my form, then raised her eyes to me.

“Little junior sister, you’ve got quite a few demands, huh?”

“Uh… yeah, sorry for the trouble, senior sister,” I said, a bit embarrassed, but I kept a smile on my face.

After all, a smile goes a long way, even in this world.

“It is troublesome. Fill in your address and name here. The wand needs to be customized, and it’ll be sent to you once it’s done. But the cape, hat, and badge can be picked up now. Since you wrote these requirements, you should be able to recognize them, right?”

The senior sister smirked, as if she’d seen plenty of freshmen like me.

“Okay,” I said, quickly thanking her.

Her tone was a bit sly, but I had Bai Yu.

If I’d just gone with the most expensive options based on hearsay, I might’ve spent ages trying to figure out what was what.

I hurriedly wrote down my name and pulled out my room card to jot down the address.

I’d be living there from now on, though I still had no idea where it was.

But since the senior sister mentioned phones had navigation, it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

“Done?”

Bai Yu asked warmly as I walked out.

“Yeah, but the senior sister said I need to find the items myself based on my requirements. The wand needs to be customized, but it sounds like the cape, hat, and badge are available here,” I replied.

“No problem, I’ll help you,” Bai Yu said naturally.

“Thank you, Bai Yu!” Hearing exactly what I wanted, I happily thanked her, even letting my voice get a bit cutesy when I called her “Bai Yu.”

It gave me goosebumps—did I really sound that sappy?

But Bai Yu seemed to enjoy it.

Should I take a crash course in cutesy voices?

The thought crossed my mind but quickly faded.
