I Shall Be Everlasting In the World of Immortals

A very unique “novel” indeed. I think it struggles to be truly called a novel and feels more like an outline of an author planning a novel because what do you mean we just get random worthless timeskips? The MC goes on and on about how he’s not an “old monster” only, as you can see in many other comments, to behave as if he’s entirely emotionally dead. Where I was at in the story, his two male friends are utter human tr*sh. One is a useless womanizer that keeps being bragged about despite the MC also acknowledging that the current cultivate level they are at is cannon fodder and the guy with all of his family resources is still struggling to keep ahead of the slow ass MC in level. The other guy is a mu*der hobo that kills for benefits and ens*aves a guy from a personal slight earlier. “Heh heh just make pills for me for 20 years and I’ll let you go be with your wife and daughter” garbage. Author male disease struck and had to make a brothel joke because yeah. <<less

I will say it is enjoyable at times to read. It will never feel or be peak as far as I see it in the near future, but still has long term potential as a series. Not only is the MC stable. But importantly the author is good at being consistent with the power levels of everyone, to ensure nothing too unreasonable breaks you out from a relaxing read. Don’t be deceived by chapter count, each chapter is quite long.

The main character may not be as overt about it as in some of the more traditional 'face slapping young master' novels, but, he's just as much of a sociopath and becomes increasing hard to like. He'll watch lovers die without blinking an eye but someone tried to pull one over on him? That deserves an assassination even if they've gone to lengths to make amends decades before. He refuses to get involved with anything remotely troubling but paying someone back for a small slight? He'll risk his life to ruin ... more>> theirs. I was enjoying reading a more traditional cultivation novel for the first time in awhile but the author has that ultra-transactional view on human relations that is so prevelant in these translations that is incredibly off-putting at times. <<less

A great novel about someone focused on preserving his life in a world of cultivation. I warn you that this novel has a very slow pace so if you are looking for constant action this is not for you. Some have said the MC is to detached with his friends and love interest and though I agree that he isnt very emotional towards his romantic interests I felt that towards his friends he made at the start he truly cared for them and always tried to help. I also get the ... more>> feeling the author doesnt trust his experience writing romantic relationships so I can understand why it can breed some disapointment to those who like properlu written romance. Another point that you will have to bear are the info dumps, from what I know the author has experience some periods where he got stuck and stopped writing so you can see sometime the same explanation that appeared 10 chapters prior. Despite this I believe this novel was a breath of fresh air in the xianxia genre Spoiler and if the author can keep writing consistenly and manages to make the arc where the MC faces Yan Donglai a peak one this novel will become one of my top 5. I shall be Everlasting in the world of Immortals is a slow burn story about a cautious cultivator that progresses gradually up the ranks. While he has been given unique opportunities, it's not some golden cheat code that has made everything easy, the story makes his decisions and choices the main aspect of his rise to power. He's imperfect but still likable, just greedy enough, but not reckless, and occasionally brave while being fundamentally risk adverse. While things go well for the protagonist, it feels like it's because he's making the correct choices, and not that it's being handed to him, it rarely feels like gets the best possible result, but instead that he manages to get ahead just enough in the opportunities given to him. It's a fascinating story and very enjoyable if you can handle the slower pace. Recommended. <<less

This is a shorter (though it's still ongoing) and more realistic version of My Longevity Simulation featuring our very pragmatic and risk averse hero, Lan Chang'an, who made an art of running away whenever external factors try to intrude on his masterplan. The best part of the book is the grammar structuring and lack of unnecessary words. The author believed in not using ten words if two would suffice and I, as a reader, really relish such books because most Chinese fantasy novels seem to run on excessive word count. In ... more>> a genre where heroes/heroines seem to lack common sense, where they rush headlong into situations above there capabilities, where plot armor abound; this book is understated, plausible, yet rich in imagery. Admittedly, it's more slice of life than action, so, those who like a fast-paced plot need not even try as this barely ramps up at speed limit, taking the reader through the lives of both our MC and multiple side characters where we get to see them grow, die, falter, and ultimately succeed. Aside from Fang Yuan (my ultimate HERO from Reverend Insanity), I don't think there's any other male MC who has been drawn so realistically. You get to know his aspirations and challenges, and how he navigates such without the reader being bogged down by mundane stuff. Absolute chef's kiss. <<less

A very low-key MC. He is very human, both for good and bad, but in general he doesn't bother people. He has two past lives. (This is related to a treasure, but it's balanced) The first reaching peak qi refining and the second peak golden core. The main premise of the novel is that his cultivation method while slower gives him way more lifespan. So you will see time pass with friends lovers and enemies dying of old age as the MC keeps going. He is very opportunistic and bids his time. After all, he has way more time than the rest. His increased lifespan allows him to master way more arts (Alchemy, Forging etc) as time passes. Btw time and time again the MCs age is at best average when he gets to the next realm. Cultivation realms are respected a lot. Jumping a minor realm makes you an absolute genius. (Early nascent, fighting mid nascent). UPDATE CHAPTER 500 So at this point the MC is amongst the strong. Still not amongst the strongest which are Divine Transformation experts but he Spoiler has combat power of high nascent at mid nascent which is a big deal in this novel since gaps are heavily respected, of course I mean the average high nascent cultivator though nobody at that realm can be called average, (Due to the low level of resources in any other environment they would have a very high chance of getting to Divine Transformation alas they were born in a post war world that has fallen in level). [collapse] The cheat item is still very balanced, the MC is starting to accumulate power so at this point he is kinda oppressive amongst Nascent cultivators but not yet the strongest. But a good chunk of that is puppets, treasures and pets he cultivated for centuries. So he is just getting paid off so to say. His strength should be more normal at Divine transformation. Soon a series of challenges will present themselves to him. Should he survive he will reach peak of Nascent making him amongst the strongest below Divine Transformation but that is 150 years away in story. At the moment he has two calamities ahead. One is relatively tame in nature while the other is gonna be a life and death situation. After that there will be the challenge of getting to Divine Transformation. Which is followed by finding a way to escape the realm. It's very hard to leave. Overall the MC is way more proactive and brutal now. He was never a coward but he knew his limits at the start. Now that he has the strength to back him up he is more straightforward and doesn't ignore as many opportunities. Still careful of course. <<less
