In the land of the Xia Kingdom, every human being is born with what is known as a ‘resonance’, either to a specific element or a powerful, mythical beast.

Unfortunately, Li Luo was born with an incredibly rare condition known as a blank resonance – as the name suggests, he doesn’t have one! Normally, this would be utterly crippling, but at least he has the advantage of being the young master of the mighty House Loulan, one of the five Great Houses of Xia.

Unfortunately, his parents, the powerful masters of House Loulan, have gone missing for many years, and the other Great Houses are beginning to eye their holdings quite hungrily. For that matter, plenty are also eyeing his talented, beautiful childhood friend and fiancee Jiang Qing’e, who has been leading House Loulan in his parents’ stead! Li Luo would much rather keep a low profile and wants to call off the engagement – but Jiang Qing’e has flatly refused.

What’s a ‘useless young master’ to do?

Is there any way he can get out of this engagement? Can he figure out a way to protect his House from the jackals circling around it? And… is a blank resonance really useless?

Come and find out!

I tried to give this novel a chance, but, as the Chinese say that you can't teach a dog not to eat poop - you similarly can't expect something better than poop from Silkworm potato. I think that this novel is somewhat okay for neophytes, but I recommend not to waste your time

Reviewing mostly due to the other negative reviews. I feel like this novel deserves much better rating. Why do we read novels? For entertainment, and this one is quite entertaining. It's by far the best one of the author so far. The plot is quite good, the main character and female lead are quite likable (most character have some depth). The author doesn't fall too much into cliché plots (well for a webnovel). There also are some refreshing points like: ... more>> Spoiler Both fiancé and mom seem to be op and don't seem to have any backing. It's the inverse of the typical plot where the dad came from a famous clan with an arranged marriage with an enemy Ms perfect and the mom is the tyrannical genius who eloped with the dad while fighting the world. The author does quite a good job at reversing the typical trope without really making the MC (and the dad) seem weak. [collapse] This novel is one where the Female lead (both previous and current generation) have a constant major role while the MC still feels like the main character. The balance is quite good, female lead is very op (older than the MC thus has a head start). The type who is literally perfect, has good instincts, smart and very op. She can crush everything through absolute and unquestionable strength. The main character, is cunning and has a growth type ability thus is mostly the underdog but also shines thoughout the novel. He is cripple at the beginning and thus developed an amazing sense of humor when dealing with enemies. He likes to always keep his cards hidden but do not shy to go all out now and then when it matters. The only lowlight is that the MC is constantly under heavy pressure walking on a rope. I do love his shameless and sense of humor as well as how he balances being low key vs flexing. <<less

Just wanted to preface this and a few concessions, as a reminder that this is MY opinion (before the diehard fans of this genre and Silkworm come for me). This review isn’t for you, you’re to biased and unwilling to acknowledge clear discrepancies where they lay. -Secondly, if this is you’re first introductory to this genre or artist, I can empathize and imagine how Euphoric or “Novel” or fresh this feels. This review isn’t for you either. -I also acknowledge that Xianxia has certain tropes and elements that are bound to ... more>> be used within the story. Its the nature of the beast, It’s a matter of how it’s delivered/ executed that’s important to discern. This is targeted for those that have been here for a while. (As of 756) I wanted to get pretty far into the story (I assume we’re about half or 1/3 of the way there, considering his previous works) before I formulated an opinion and... it’s just not good. In this review, I’d like to define “art” as an artist or author’s entire body of work, that showcases a transformative or qualitative change as they progress. This means that as the artist’s career continues, it not plagued by REDUNDANCY nor does gives off a feeling of stangnation. The art work ultimately goes through some sort of qualitative change. Qualitative change DOES not mean: (Someone from an earlier review wrote this and I think this is very apt) “Changing Qi to resonance or energy, pills to essence, among other names and ranks just reminded me of how unoriginal and lazy the writing is.” This is essentially the crux of the issue, if you’ve read Heavenly Silkworms previous works, it feels as though he has a template - beautiful almost unobtainable FMC, handsome/extremely talented MC, all the female characters are enamored with the MC, and just a boat load of BS plot armor to cover up for poor and/or lazy writing. Everything suddenly happens by coincidence or pure chance or Insert a wild OP character conveniently that is there to help or deter the MC. MC and FMC separate for some bs reason, etc... Just for him to eventually come back and inserts arc of him vying and competing with some nemesis/rival for her love. It’s just dumpster fire and lazy writing. All of these things plaguing the story will inevitably cause your Suspense of disbelief to be discarded out the window and roll your eyes as some BS that is so absurd occurred. What is even more telling, is when something absurd happens especially during the (No spoilers ahead) House Luolan arc and onwards - the sarcasm and disdain (deservedly so) from some of the readers is palpable in the comment section. The pacing feels awkward and is very inconsistent. Sometimes a lot of times will transpire through a few short chapters. Alternatively, at times, H.S.W. will devote like 80 chapters to a particular instance in time and still not fully end of whatever the conflict is (just so it can be used later) it throws you for a loop. This ultimately feels like if Silkworm took “Battle Through the Heavens” (BTTH) and “The Great Ruler” (TGR) and roughly mashed them together and you got Li Luo and what will most likely be the story of “Absolute Resonance”. With all that being said, because of the constant clichés and rendundant plot tropes, this is ultimately is BORING and without the awesome translation team. I would hesitate to say this is even palatable. For those who haven’t read his previous works and are waiting for the next chapter like it’s an unhealthy addiction. Might I recommend reading his previous works and just insert Li Luo and Qiange’e in the MC and FMC roles and there you go. In all seriousness, this is probably going to be a 2/5. And that’s mainly due to the translation team and the interactions between Li Luo and his family/ loved ones. <<less

It feels like every character treats the MC like tr*sh. The MC has absolute no power in his own house, which the parents build from ground up. Thats fricking his house and you are still treating him like tr*sh. The fMC treats him like a child despite being only 2 years older.

Don't listen to the low reviews. This novel should have a rating of 4.8, not the absurd 3.7 it currently has. Li Luo, our MC, is the classic underdog MC with a "crippled" cultivation talent. He also has a fiance arranged for him by his parents. His parents are missing, and his clan/house is losing its standing among the other noble clans/houses. Li Luo sets out to get stronger and restore his house's honor. I know most of you have seen this a dozen times, but the classic tropes basically end there. ... more>> The cultivation system is a refreshing and unique one, not a repetition of "Qi Refining, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, etc". The author describes the process of advancing in strength in vivid detail. His fiance is not reproachful of her status as a crippled person's fiance, but instead one of Li Luo's staunchest allies. The two share a relationship almost like siblings, with little real romance so far (though there is a girl or two that is romantically interested in Li Luo). All of this is great, but the thing that sells the novel is Li Luo himself. The author has improved since his previous works of Battle Through The Heavens and the like. He has managed to write a character that demonstrates his intelligence through actions, unlike the vast majority of CNs that say "Zhong Qan is a genius, so he saw through the ploy immediately" and leave it at that. Li Luo has a great strategic mind, and every one of his plots leave me with a sense of satisfaction that I can't experience from the so-called scheming (really just basic critical thinking) in almost every other CN. The side characters aren't cardboard cutouts; they all have their own characteristics and personality traits that make for an entertaining and humorous read. The villains, unlike what ApatheticSchizoid would have you believe, have realistic motivations and act like people with basic critical thinking, a rarity in CNs. I want to repeat that the cultivation system is unique and nothing like what hawlol said. Some negatives now. Some people are bothered by the multitude of girls in Li Luo's life, and they say these girls just exist to add a harem-like vibe to the novel. I personally enjoy his interactions with the girls (some teasing, but platonic otherwise) because they remind me that Li Luo isn't the beta virg*n MC I so commonly see in CNs. Some people are bothered by Li Luo's luck in that he usually gets exactly what he needs to overcome an obstacle a few dozen chapters before the obstacle arrives. I honestly don't mind this at all because almost every time he gets this luck, it's accompanied by a good plan that he concocts to achieve his goal, so it feels like Li Luo doesn't rely on luck nearly as much as his intelligence. TLDR: Unique cultivation system and good villains (ignore what other reviews say about this). Actually intelligent MC. Refreshing storyline and plot. Definitely a 5/5 from me. I'd say it's the 2nd best CN I've ever read (and I've read over 40), the best being Divine Throne of Primordial Blood. <<less

Truly amazing, its written so well, and the power balance doesn't fumble. It has its own unique system of power that is very interesting and well designed. The characters feel alive, and the world real. The MC isn't op but his potential is, he uses schemes to deal with those he can't overpower, plus his calm, calculating and fearless personality is very likable. There isn't too much development romantically, but his relationship with them runs deep and they are willing to die for each other. I read I really enjoyed, ... more>> and now the horrid wait for new chapters... Give me more! <<less

May be cliched but filled with good jokes nice girls and (hilariously) great friends of the MC. A package just like I wanted for a light-hearted read. Warning: may have infuriatingly short chapters with doesn't advance the plot but just take it as short entertainment and you'll just be craving more rather than being mad at the chapter for not being compelling. A nice entertaining inoffensive read, our MC is not s*upid and we have our typical villains that we want grinded to a pulp. The reviewers who dropped a ... more>> negative review must have been expecting the best read ever or something because I sure am entertained reading this and thus, definitely recommend trying it out. <<less

It was kinda good but now it's boring, so much bullshit, you are going to read tons of chapters that leads to nothing, plots that doesn't change anything. Something like wasting 3 chapters to buy herbs, 5~7 chapters to heal people, one entire chapter to travel... Furthermore this novel is more magical, a true xuanhuan, there are a lot of different elements from xianxia and wuxia. Idk, I don't enjoy that much anymore.
